2014 Subaru Forester
Ahead of its debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, Subaru has revealed the brand new 2014 Forester crossover.
The styling is an evolution of the current model’s and, at 180.9” (4.59 m) long and 70.7” (1.79 m) wide, the dimensions are virtually the same. However, Subaru is saying that better packaging has resulted in more rear-seat legroom and an enlarged cargo space.
Carried over from the 2013 Forester is the 170 bhp (126 kW / 172 PS) 2.5 litre normally-aspirated boxer engine, although new manual and continuously variable transmissions should result in better fuel economy.
Out goes the previous 2.5 litre turbo engine, which has been replaced by a 2.0 litre direct-injection turbo unit. Despite a smaller capacity it generates 250 bhp (186 kW / 253 PS), a figure that’s around 11% more than its predecessor could manage. Partnering the 2.0 litre motor is going to be a continuously variable transmission featuring 6- and 8-speed manual modes.
