2014 Yamaha MT-09 unveiled

Yamaha has revealed the naked MT-09, which it describes as ‘a whole new concept in sport bike design’.

Built around an aluminium die-cast frame, the MT-09 is powered by an 847 cc three-cylinder engine that delivers 113 bhp (85 kW / 115 PS) with 88 Nm (65 lb/ft) of peak torque available at 8,500 rpm. Those outputs are combined with a wet weight of 188 kg (414 lbs) that includes full oil and fuel tanks.

With its wide handlebars, upright riding position and lack of bodywork, the styling is very much motard-inspired. Offered in a choice of four colours (including a Race Blu scheme), the look is completed by a short 3-into-1 exhaust and 10-spoke alloy wheels.

In the UK, the 2014 Yamaha MT-09 has been priced at £6,932 including all on the road costs.

So that means it costs about the same as the £6,999 Triumph Street Triple, another three-cylinder, unfaired roadster. However, the British bike uses a smaller-capacity 675 cc motor that produces 105 bhp (78 kW / 106 PS), but then it is slightly lighter than the Yamaha.
