Toyota FT-1 coupé concept revealed

The Toyota FT-1 coupé has a definite wow factor, just like any decent motor show concept car should.

Unveiled today at the North American International Auto Show, it’s the work of Toyota’s California-based Calty studios. The striking design incorporates a long bonnet, dramatic air intakes and vents, a wraparound windscreen and a retractable rear wing. Clearly the Toyota 2000GT from the 1960s has been an influence, but elements of the styling also evoke the current Nissan GT-R and even some later TVR models.

Toyota has confirmed that the FT-1 features a front-mounted internal combustion engine and rear-wheel drive. No other technical details have been released though.

Whether it will go into production remains to be seen, but the FT-1 has the potential to become a worthy replacement for Toyota’s Supra.
