David Brown ‘Project Judi’ teased

David Brown Automotive might be a new brand, but the British firm has already learnt how to do a teaser campaign for its first model.

Named ‘Project Judi’ for now, the venture is certainly intriguing. Following the car’s announcement last month we now know that - as suspected - it’s essentially a re-skinned Jaguar XKR Coupé with a bespoke interior.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. After all, the Jaguar does feature a 503 bhp (375 kW / 510 PS) 5.0 litre supercharged V8 engine, rear-wheel drive and lightweight aluminium construction.

And why go through the hassle and expense of developing then type-approving something from scratch? David Brown Automotive is simply following in the finest traditions of numerous British coachbuilders and Italian carrozzerie. Of course, the end result is going to have to be special enough to make ‘Project Judi’ more desirable than a standard XKR.

David Brown, eponymous founder of the company, has said, “I wanted all the impact and style of a classic sports car, but with modern capabilities and conveniences.” Hopefully that doesn’t mean it’ll be a mere pastiche, although the headlight design does evoke the Aston Martin DB6 (a car that coincidentally bears the initials of another David Brown).

All will be revealed when ‘Project Judi’ is launched at the Top Marques Show in Monaco on the 17th of April.
