Citroën unveils the DS 6WR

Citroën’s strategy to make DS a separate sub-brand is set to continue with the 6WR. An SUV inspired by the Wild Rubis concept, it’ll be launched first in China.

At 4.55 metres (14’ 11”) long and 1.86 metres (6’ 1”) wide, the DS 6WR is roughly the same size as a Citroën Grand C4 Picasso. A long wheelbase, 19” wheels and a bold front grille design all contribute to a very different look, though.

Power comes from either the e-THP 160 or THP 200 direct injection engines, both of which feature a twin-scroll turbocharger and come connected to a six-speed automatic transmission. Perhaps surprisingly, the DS 6WR isn’t equipped with all-wheel drive. Instead, a system called Grip Control is used to provide extra traction over rough terrain.

Along with the DS 5LS R concept, the DS 6WR is due to make its public debut at the Beijing Motor Show later this month.
