Volkswagen at RETTmobil 2014

Volkswagen is exhibiting a number of vehicles at this year’s RETTmobil emergency equipment trade show.

Among them is a Tiguan fire brigade command car which, unusually, is painted black but looks red thanks to an all-over foil wrap. Modifications include a reverse warning device, preparation for a two-way radio and a roof-mounted Hänsch DBS 400 light bar that’s controlled by an HBE 300 handheld unit.

This particular Tiguan has a 138 bhp (103 kW / 140 PS) 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. 4Motion all-wheel drive is part of the specification too.

Also adapted for similar duties is a flame red Passat estate fitted with Hella’s RTK 7 blue light system. Likewise 4Motion features, but the engine is a more powerful 174 bhp (130 kW / 177 PS) 2.0 litre diesel unit which is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

However, Volkswagen’s efforts haven’t focussed solely on the feuerwehr. Another model on display is a Touareg that has been developed for notarzt (emergency doctor) service.

Equipped with a 241 bhp (180 kW / 245 PS) 3.0 litre V6 motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission, it comes with a DEFA charger, two-way radio preparation and a Pintsch Bamag Zirkon roof bar that incorporates warning LEDs, alley lights and a public address loudspeaker.
