Porsche updates the Cayenne GTS for 2015

Porsche’s sporty Cayenne GTS has lost its 4.8 litre V8 engine. The latest version, which will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month, is getting a 3.6 litre V6 instead.

That’s actually good news because, thanks to direct injection and twin turbochargers, power is up by 19 bhp (15 kW / 20 PS) to 433 bhp (324 kW / 440 PS). Similarly, peak torque has risen from 515 Nm (380 lb/ft) to 600 Nm (442 lb/ft).

With the standard eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission, those figures translate into a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 5.2 seconds and a 163 mph (262 km/h) top speed. By comparison, the old model took half a second longer to complete the benchmark sprint.

Efficiency is better too. On the combined cycle the GTS now achieves 28.3 mpg (10 l/100km), while carbon dioxide emissions have dropped from 251 g/km to 234 g/km.

Visually, not much has changed. The Turbo variant’s front end remains, as do the wheel arch extensions, deeper side skirts, roof spoiler and black 20” wheels. Front sports seats covered in leather and Alcantara are still part of the interior specification.

Available to order now, the 2015 Porsche Cayenne GTS has a price tag of £72,523 in the UK.
