2016 Lexus GS F announced

Lexus is continuing to grow its line-up of ‘F’ performance models. The latest addition, which is set to be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit later this month, is the mid-size GS F saloon.

Power comes from a normally-aspirated 5.0 litre V8 engine that’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Interestingly, it can switch between the Otto and Atkinson combustion cycles, depending on whether greater brawn or efficiency is required.

Even without the aid of forced induction, output is rated at 467 bhp (348 kW / 473 PS) with 527 Nm (388 lb/ft) of peak torque. Although performance figures (and pricing) have yet to be released, the GS F’s potential rivals easily better those figures.

For example, the supercharged 5.0 litre V8 in the Jaguar XFR develops 502 bhp (375 kW / 510 PS) and 625 Nm (461 lb/ft), while the turbocharged 4.4 litre V8 used by the BMW M5 produces 552 bhp (412 kW / 560 PS) and 680 Nm (501 lb/ft).
