2016 Ducati Monster 1200 R revealed
Ducati's new 1200 R has become the most powerful member of its Monster family.
The naked R is built around a 1,198 cc Testastretta V-twin engine which produces 157 bhp (117 kW / 160 PS) with 131 Nm (97 lb/ft) of peak torque. By comparison, the existing S model extracts a relatively modest 143 bhp (106 kW / 145 PS) and 124 Nm (91 lb/ft) from the same capacity.
Delivered via a six-speed gearbox, the R's increased output is kept in check by a traction control system and a choice of Urban, Touring and Sport riding modes.
An upgraded front fork, rear monoshock and steering damper – all supplied by Öhlins – complement the extra performance potential. Anti-lock brakes are also fitted as standard, plus the two front discs are matched with radially-mounted Brembo Monobloc four-piston calipers.
Visually, distinguishing features include redesigned rear bodywork, a unique saddle and lightweight three-spoke forged wheels shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres. Red or black colour schemes are available.
A UK price for the Monster 1200 R has yet to be announced.
