2017 Mini JCW Clubman sales begin in the UK

Mini's quirky five-seat Clubman is now available in high performance John Cooper Works guise.

It features ALL4 all-wheel drive as standard and a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine. An output of 227 bhp (170 kW / 231 PS) – plus 350 Nm (258 lb/ft) of torque – allow the JCW Clubman to accelerate from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 6.3 seconds. Top speed is 148 mph (238 km/h).

Efficiency seems to depend on the transmission chosen. With a six-speed manual gearbox, average fuel economy is officially rated at 38.2 mpg (7.4 l/100km), while carbon dioxide emissions are 168 g/km. However, specifying the optional eight-speed Steptronic automatic instead sees those figures become 41.5 mpg (6.8 l/100km) and 154 g/km.

To complement the extra pace, the suspension set-up is firmer than other Clubman variants and upgraded Brembo brakes are fitted. Furthermore, the Dynamic Stability Control system incorporates Dynamic Traction Control, Electronic Differential Lock Control (a locking function for the front axle's differential) and Performance Control (to improve turn-in agility).

Helping to create a suitably sporty appearance are a tailgate spoiler, extended side skirts and unique bumpers. A hexagon-pattern front grille, LED headlights and 18” 'Grip Spoke' alloy wheels complete the look.

In the UK, the 2017 Mini John Cooper Works Clubman has a starting price of £29,345. Among the numerous cost options are a £2,000 Chili pack (which includes a 19” wheel upgrade, heated front seats and a wider choice of upholstery) and the aforementioned £1,600 Steptronic transmission.
