2017 Toyota Yaris WRC unveiled

A colossal tailgate spoiler plus a conspicuous under-bumper diffuser mean the 2017 Yaris WRC looks most imposing from the rear. Clearly, Toyota Gazoo Racing has fully exploited the latest FIA World Rally Championship regulations, which permit much more design freedom than before.

This new contender marks Toyota's return to the sport after an eighteen-year gap. Akio Toyoda is Team Chairman, while four-time World Rally Champion Tommi Mäkinen has been appointed Team Principal.

The two driver / co-driver pairings of Jari-Matti Latvala / Miikka Anttila and Juho Hänninen / Kaj Lindström are an all-Finnish affair.

They'll be competing in cars powered by a direct-injection, turbocharged, four-cylinder 1.6 litre engine. Output is rated in excess of 375 bhp (280 kW / 380 PS) and over 425 Nm (313 lb/ft) of peak torque is available. Those figures are combined with a minimum weight of just 1,190 kg (2,623 lbs), so the Yaris WRC's performance should be rapid enough.

A six-speed gearbox and an all-wheel drive system are other key components. Also fitted are two mechanical differentials, an active centre differential and an air- and water-cooled braking set-up.
