Honda will retail the Civic saloon in the UK
Given the general apathy that UK car buyers have towards C-segment saloons, Honda’s decision to begin selling the four-door Civic here in August does seem strange. However, as hardly any other rival marques now offer such a vehicle, maybe there’s some pent-up demand to satisfy?
While the five-door hatchback version is manufactured in Swindon, the Civic saloon is being sourced from Turkey.
Customers are going to have a choice of two engines. The more popular option is likely to be a 127 bhp (95 kW / 129 PS) 1.0 litre i-VTEC petrol unit, which comes with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously-variable transmission.
Diesel fans will be catered for by the 118 bhp (88 kW / 120 PS) 1.6 litre i-DTEC. It’s also mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but a new nine-speed automatic is the interesting alternative.
Honda is due to announce full specifications and pricing closer to the launch date.
