For its all-new mid-size crossover, Chevrolet has resurrected the Blazer nameplate. The 2019 model boasts distinctive looks thanks to a high beltline that flicks up towards the rear, some intricate surfacing, a large front grille and separate elevated LED daytime running lights.

Inside, there’s room for five people, but if required the rear seats fold flat to give up to 1,818 litres (64.2 cubic feet) of luggage space. A standard touchscreen-controlled infotainment system offers 4G LTE wi-fi hot-spot capability, as well as compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Available equipment includes wireless device charging, a dual-pane power sunroof, adaptive cruise control and a rear-view camera.

The entry-level engine is a 2.5 litre four-cylinder gasoline unit that produces 193 bhp (143 kW / 195 PS) plus 255 Nm (188 lb/ft) of torque. Alternatively, customers will be able to order a more powerful 3.6 litre V6 which raises the output figures to 305 bhp (227 kW / 309 PS) and 365 Nm (269 lb/ft).

Both options are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and they can be specified with either front- or all-wheel drive.

Intended to slot between Equinox and Traverse in Chevrolet’s range, the 2019 Blazer is due to arrive at North American dealers early next year. Prices have yet to be confirmed.
