UK prices announced for the Kona Electric
Electric cars usually cost more than their combustion-engine equivalents. That’s certainly the case with the Hyundai Kona Electric, which will soon be available to order in the UK (albeit only via the brand’s Click to Buy website).
Whereas prices for the petrol-fuelled Kona range from £16,450 to £26,245, the outlay required to purchase a Kona Electric starts at £29,495 and goes up to £36,295. However, the government’s Plug-in Car Grant – currently £4,500 – significantly reduces those amounts.
Three trim grades are being variously offered with two battery / motor combinations.
All feature a unique front bumper design, special 17” alloy wheels, climate control, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a DAB radio. Smart cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian recognition are among the small SUV’s standard safety devices.
The mid-level Premium variant adds numerous items. These include front parking sensors, satellite navigation, wireless device charging, an upgraded eight-speaker audio set-up and rear privacy glass.
For some extra luxury, the Premium SE gains heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel. A head-up display and LED headlights are fitted too.
