A unique McLaren P1 GTR that honours Senna
In 1988, the late Ayrton Senna won the first of his three Formula One World Championships. One car collector wanted to commemorate that event’s 30th anniversary in a very special way.
Consequently, McLaren Special Operations was commissioned to customise a P1 GTR. This one-off creation, which is called ‘Beco’ (a family nickname for Senna), naturally features the famous red and white Marlboro livery.
The modifications aren’t merely cosmetic, though. For instance, output from the hybrid powertrain is up from the usual 986 bhp (735 kW / 1000 PS), but by how much remains a mystery. The only clue comes from the owner, who reckons that the result is a “suitably pleasing” increase.
To complement the extra performance potential, the aerodynamics received attention too. Redesigned components include the front dive planes, front splitter, barge boards and rear Gurney flap. Furthermore, the rear wing has gained larger end plates, along with some additional downforce-generating elements.
