2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 unveiled

When the V8 version offers brisk-enough performance and a more engaging driving experience, the pricier W12-powered Bentley Continental GT seems rather hard to justify.

The latest eight-cylinder model – which will be offered in coupĂ© and cabriolet guises – features a revised 4.0 litre twin-turbo engine. Producing 542 bhp (404 kW / 550 PS) plus 770 Nm (568 lb/ft) of peak torque, it’s combined with a variable rear-biased all-wheel drive system.

Consequently, the GT V8 can accelerate from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.0 seconds, before going on to a top speed of 198 mph (318 km/h). The GT V8 Convertible’s time for the same sprint is 4.1 seconds.

Externally, the V8 cars can be identified by their ten-spoke 20” wheels, quad exhaust pipes and subtle badges. A mix of leather upholstery and walnut veneer gives the interior an ambience that manages to be both traditional and contemporary.

Deliveries of the new Continental GT V8 and Continental GT V8 Convertible are due to begin in the United States during the third quarter of this year. Other market launches won’t take place until 2020.
