BMW Motorrad creates the Concept R18

At this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, BMW Motorrad unveiled a retro-inspired cruiser. Named Concept R18, it mixes long and low proportions, minimal bodywork, exposed components and some traditional styling cues.

A new twin-cylinder, boxer engine visually dominates the bike. This 1800 cc unit – which is made from bead-blasted aluminium – features air / oil cooling and, unusually, dual Solex carburettors. Contrast is provided by shiny polished surfacing for numerous other parts including the valve covers.

The mudguards, fork shrouds, headlight nacelle and fuel tank are all painted black to match the cradle frame. White hand-applied pinstripes, covered with a yellow-gold varnish, surround segments that have a complementary metallic finish. Wire-spoke wheels and a single leather-covered saddle complete the aesthetic.
