Cadillac unveils the 2020 CT4-V

There’s soon going to be a new contender in North America’s ultra-competitive compact executive saloon segment. It’s the Cadillac CT4, which is roughly the same size as the latest BMW 3 Series.

The CT4-V sits at the top of the range. While in theory this V-Series model directly replaces the rapid ATS-V, the reality could be rather different thanks to a significant engine downgrade.

A proper comparison can’t be made yet, because performance and efficiency figures haven’t been published. However, the CT4-V ‘only’ has a 2.7 litre, four-cylinder, single-turbo gasoline unit that delivers an estimated 320 bhp (239 kW / 324 PS) and 500 Nm (369 lb/ft) of peak torque via a Hydra-Matic ten-speed automatic transmission.

Those numbers probably seem quite impressive in isolation. Remember, though, that the ATS-V’s mighty 3.6 litre twin-turbo V6 produced 464 bhp (346 kW / 470 PS) with 603 Nm (445 lb/ft).

18” alloy wheels, a limited-slip differential, rear-wheel drive and Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 variable damping all appear on the CT4-V’s standard equipment list. Cadillac is also intending to offer all-wheel drive, but opting for it will mean that ordinary ZF MVS passive dampers are fitted instead.

CT4-V sales are expected to start sometime in early 2020.
