Hyundai 45 electric car concept unveiled

According to Hyundai, the 45 “re-imagines the in-car experience in the age of electrification and autonomous technologies”. This vision of the future – which has been revealed at the IAA Frankfurt International Motor Show – is so-named because the Pony Coupe Concept first appeared forty-five years ago.

The exterior is influenced by the brand’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. It mixes simple hatchback proportions with eye-catching surfacing and some more intricate details. Of particular note are the bold 45° swage lines and shallow lattice grille.

Access to the cabin is via four sliding doors. Inside, wood, leather and carpeting combine to create a relaxing lounge ambience. As befits a vehicle with self-driving possibilities, the front seats can be rotated to face passengers in the rear.

Rather than making something up, Hyundai has sensibly not bothered providing any details about the electric powertrain. The body architecture envisages that batteries would be positioned beneath the floor, though.
