Lexus LY 650 motor yacht unveiled

Following 2017’s Sport Yacht Concept, Lexus has introduced the production-ready LY 650.

Designed in collaboration with Italian studio Nuvolari Lenard, this flybridge cruiser combines an overall length of 19.9 metres (65’ 5”) and a beam of 5.8 metres (18’ 11”). The luxurious interior features a spacious seating area and galley on the main deck, while downstairs there are three two-berth en-suite cabins.

A mixture of carbon fibre reinforced plastic and glass fibre reinforced plastic is used for the lightweight yet highly rigid hull. Power comes from a pair of Volvo Penta 12.8 litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engines that are available in three states of tune:
  • IPS1050 – 789 bhp (588 kW / 800 PS)
  • IPS1200 – 887 bhp (662 kW / 900 PS)
  • IPS1350 – 986 bhp (735 kW / 1,000 PS)
The Lexus LY 650 is actually being built in the United States by Marquis Yachts of Wisconsin. However, the Toyota Production System has been adopted, which is reckoned to benefit both manufacturing quality and efficiency.

Sales are due to begin next month.
