2020 Corvette Stingray Convertible launched
There have always been convertible versions of the Chevrolet Corvette, but the new C8 generation is the first to feature a solid top and a mid-engine layout.
Six electric motors are used to open the two-piece composite roof while either stationary or driving at speeds up to 30 mph (50 km/h). That operation takes around sixteen seconds and, when completed, everything is stored neatly beneath a distinctive tonneau cover with twin aerodynamic nacelles. Luggage capacity remains largely unaffected.
Power comes from the same LT2 naturally-aspirated 6.2 litre V8 which is found in the C8 Coupe. Therefore, 495 bhp (369 kW / 501 PS) plus 637 Nm (470 lb/ft) of peak torque are sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Chevrolet has slightly tweaked the chassis, though – the Convertible has bespoke springs and recalibrated dampers.
