UK prices for the 2020 Subaru XV e-Boxer

Subaru has confirmed prices and specifications for its XV e-Boxer, which is now available from dealers.

This new ‘self-charging’ (i.e. non-plug-in) hybrid features a 2.0 litre direct injection petrol engine, an electric motor and a rear-mounted lithium-ion battery pack. A Lineartronic continuously-variable automatic transmission and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive complete the powertrain.

With 148 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) plus 194 Nm (143 lb/ft) of peak torque, performance is probably going to be adequate for most people. The 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes 10.7 seconds, for instance, while the top speed is 120 mph (193 km/h). However, a WLTP combined cycle figure of 35.7 mpg (7.9 l/100km) suggests that efficiency is disappointing.

The entry-level SE trim grade costs from £30,995. Standard equipment includes LED headlights, LED front fog lights, 18” alloy wheels, a reversing camera, keyless entry, heated front seats and dual-zone climate control. A touchscreen-controlled infotainment system is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Also fitted are the EyeSight and Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection driver assistance packages. The former comprises Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Sway and Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Pre-Collision Braking and Pre-Collision Throttle Management; the latter adds Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Alternatively, the only other variant being offered is the SE Premium. Starting at £32,995, it gains a sunroof, leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat and satellite navigation.
