Tata introduces the all-new 2021 Safari SUV
Tata dealers in India are now accepting orders for the second-generation Safari. This new SUV is built on the brand’s OMEGARC architecture, which is derived from Land Rover’s D8 monocoque platform. The current Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque are therefore closely related.
The Safari’s styling combines xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, a distinctive stepped roof, flared arches, and 18” alloy wheels.
Both six- and seven-seat interior layouts are being offered. The spacious third row isn’t just for occasional use, and passengers sat there even get their own air conditioning outlets, reading lamps and a USB socket. Carefully selected materials – such as perforated leather for the upholstery – are intended to create a premium ambiance.
For an even more striking look, customers can opt for an Adventure version. For its exterior, Tropical Mist paintwork is complemented by Piano Black trim pieces and a Charcoal Grey finish on the wheels and skid plates. Inside, an Earthy Brown colour scheme incorporates Dark Chrome accents.
Across the Safari range, plenty of technology is available. For instance, the infotainment facilities can include satellite navigation, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a nine-speaker JBL Audio set-up. Display is taken care of by a central 8.8” ‘Floating Island’ high resolution touchscreen plus a linked 7” TFT instrument cluster.
In addition, Intelligent Real Time Assist (iRA) telematics provide extra security features, location-based services, remote commands, vehicle diagnostics and over-the-air updates.
Power comes from a 2.0 litre Kryotec diesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to turbocharging, peak output and torque are rated at 170 PS (167 bhp / 125 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) respectively.
As well as a Terrain Response system with three modes (Normal, Rough and Wet), the Safari is equipped with numerous driver aids. Among them are a reversing camera, Electronic Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, Corner Stability Control, Dynamic Wheel Torque by Brake, Roll Over Mitigation and Hill Descent Control.
In Delhi, prices for the 2021 Tata Safari start at ₹14.69 lakhs. At today’s exchange rates, that’s approximately £14,400, €16,700 or US$20,300.
