An official classic Mini electric conversion
Nippy performance, great manoeuvrability, diminutive dimensions and zero emissions are qualities that any decent city car needs today. Arguably, a classic Mini running purely on electricity has them all.
A few independent companies already offer such a transformation, but now there’s an official conversion called Mini Recharged.
The modifications – which were devised by a team at Mini’s Oxford factory – involve stripping out the old A-series petrol engine and replacing it with a 122 PS (120 bhp / 90 kW) electric motor and a battery pack.
With the new virtually silent powertrain installed, the car’s 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration time drops to around nine seconds. An anticipated range of approximately 99 miles (160 kilometres) should be enough for most daily journeys.
Interestingly, all of the changes are reversible, so the removed components are marked and stored in case they’re required in the future.
Mini Recharged pricing has yet to be announced.
