The Nissan Micra gets a facelift

The current-generation Micra, launched in 2010, has always suffered from anonymous looks. But now Nissan is trying to rectify that situation by giving the Indian-built supermini a much needed facelift.

As expected, the focus has been on the exterior. A totally redesigned front end lends the Micra some extra presence, while at the rear there’s a new bumper plus LED light clusters.

Apart from revised seat fabrics, the major change on the inside is an updated centre console that can now accommodate a larger 5.8” colour touchscreen for the Connect navigation and communication system. USB, aux-in and 12v sockets have also been incorporated.

Buyers still have a choice of two 1.2 litre, three-cylinder petrol engines and power outputs remain at 79 bhp (59 kW / 80 PS) for the normally-aspirated version or 96 bhp (72 kW / 98 PS) for the DIG-S supercharged motor. However, thanks partly to a stop-start device the latter option is now even more efficient, achieving 68.9 mpg (4.1 l/100km) on the combined cycle with carbon dioxide emissions of 95 g/km.

In a slightly simplified range, the 2014 Nissan Micra is being offered in Visia, Acenta and Tekna trim grades.
