2014 Amarok Canyon confirmed for the UK

Volkswagen is introducing a special version of its Amarok pick-up. Called the Canyon, it follows the usual limited edition practice of combining extra kit with some cosmetic touches.

The specification is certainly extensive. Based on the existing Trendline trim grade, the standard equipment list includes touchscreen satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, two-tone leather upholstery and heated front seats. Also fitted are parking sensors front and rear, privacy glass and a protective coating for the cargo bed.

Visually, 19” alloy wheels, some subtle body-side stripes, styling bars and a colour-coded front bash plate identify the Canyon. The paintwork choice comprises Deep Black, Copper Orange or Reflex Silver.

Volkswagen has decided to make just one engine available, but at least it’s the 2.0 litre BiTDI bi-turbo diesel that produces 177 bhp (132 kW / 180 PS). Buyers will be able to go for either a six-speed manual gearbox with selectable 4Motion all-wheel drive or an eight-speed automatic transmission with permanent 4Motion.

Amarok Canyon sales are scheduled to begin in April. The UK’s production allocation is being restricted to 350 examples, of which 50 will feature the manual gearbox and be priced from £28,990 (excluding VAT). The remainder are going to be automatics and they’ll cost from £30,720. Among the options on offer is the roof light bar shown in the image above, which would add a not inconsiderable £945 to the vehicle invoice.
