2014 Datsun on-DO saloon unveiled
Russia is the target market for Datsun’s latest model, the peculiarly-named on-DO.
The new saloon has been designed specifically for that country and so understandably the focus has been on robustness and reliability. Styled in Japan but engineered in Russia, the on-DO measures 4,337 mm (14’ 3”) long, accommodates five people and boasts 530 litres of boot space. It’ll be built locally at the Avtovaz plant in Togliatti.
For now technical specifications are sparse, but Datsun has confirmed that power is going to come from an 85 bhp (64 kW / 87 PS) 1.6 litre engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Sales are scheduled to begin this summer through an initial network of 25 dealers. In line with Datsun’s ‘budget brand’ positioning, the on-DO’s target price is under 400,000 roubles. That equates to around £6,800 or €8,300 at current exchange rates.
