Lexus has unveiled the new NX. A mid-size crossover, its task will be to steal segment share from established rivals such as the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.

Angular styling, a rearwards-sloping roofline and a massive ‘spindle’ front grille give the NX a typically Lexus look. Other key styling elements include a shallow glasshouse, flared wheel arches and distinctive LED headlamps and rear light clusters.

Among the interior innovations is a wireless charging tray for portable devices, while a blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert system and head-up display will also be available.

Individual market specifications have yet to be confirmed, but three engine options are going to be produced. The normally-aspirated NX 200 and turbocharged NX 200t both feature a 2.0 litre petrol unit. Although there’s no diesel in the range, those seeking efficiency should be catered for by the NX 300h petrol-electric hybrid.

The Lexus NX will make its first public appearance at the Beijing Motor Show later this month. UK sales are then expected to begin towards the end of 2014.
