Nissan creates the Leaf Open Car

100,000 examples of the pure-electric Leaf have now been sold in Japan since its introduction there in 2010. To commemorate that achievement, Nissan decided to build something unique.

Hence the roofless Leaf Open Car, which was unveiled at a zero-emissions forum in Tokyo.

Removing the B pillars has undoubtedly made the interior very airy. However, structural rigidity probably suffered badly as a result, so a lack of rear doors is understandable. The bizarre high-back rear seats could conceal extra bracing, too.

Wisely, Nissan isn’t intending to put the Leaf Open Car into production.
