Lexus introduces the IS F Sport I Blue edition

UK customers seeking a compact executive saloon generally end up choosing a model from one of the German brands. However, for anybody who wants to be a bit contrary, there are a few alternatives. They include the Lexus IS, which is now available in I Blue limited edition guise.

Based on the existing IS 300h F Sport, its name refers to the traditional ‘ai-iro’ indigo dye that’s commonly known as Japan Blue. Fittingly, the upholstery stitching, various interior trim elements and the wooden portion of the steering wheel are all coloured blue.

On the outside, the I Blue features 18” alloy wheels with a dark lustre finish and black door mirror caps. Azure Blue would surely be the most appropriate paint option, but Graphite Black and Sonic White are also being offered.

An enhanced standard equipment list gains ventilation for the power-adjustable front sports seats, auto-folding door mirrors and a better navigation system with a 10.3” display (instead of the usual 7” item). A Premium Pack – comprising smart entry and start, upgraded LED headlights, high-beam assist, a reversing camera and steering wheel heating – can be added at extra cost.

As per the regular IS 300h variants, power is provided by a self-charging (i.e. non-plug-in) hybrid set-up that consists of a 2.5 litre four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor, a nickel-metal hydride battery and a continuously-variable automatic transmission. Total output is rated at 220 bhp (164 kW / 223 PS).
