Morgan builds the first Plus 8 GTR
Just nine examples of the Plus 8 GTR special edition will be produced by Morgan.
All of them are based on unused, recommissioned Plus 8 bonded-aluminium chassis which were sourced from an abandoned third-party project. Distinguishing GTR features include a front splitter, a high door line, five-spoke centre-lock wheels (sitting beneath re-profiled arches) and a unique hard top.
Power is provided by a BMW N62 4.8-litre V8 naturally-aspirated engine. Output has been raised from 367 PS (362 bhp / 270 kW) to 380 PS (375 bhp / 280 kW), and customers could choose either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Because the cars are being treated as bespoke commissions, each is going to be different. The first one is now complete, and it combines Yas Marina Blue paintwork with a black interior.
According to Steve Morris, Chairman and CEO of Morgan, “The Plus 8 GTR represents an opportunity for Morgan to celebrate the V8 engine once again, something we did not expect to do since finishing the Plus 8 and Aero 8 models in 2018.
“Striking design, the finest craftsmanship, and an exhilarating sports car to drive, the Plus 8 GTR is the perfect swansong to the Morgan V8.”
