Morgan Plus Four CX-T launched
A Morgan Plus Four is an unlikely basis for an overland adventure vehicle. Nevertheless, that’s the role of the new CX-T.
It was designed in collaboration with Rally Raid UK, a company with extensive experience of building cars for the gruelling Dakar Rally.
Modifications include an upgraded suspension set-up which incorporates bespoke EXE-TC coilover assemblies, wishbones from the Plus Six, and more durable bushes. The result is a wider track, extra wheel travel and 230 mm (9.1”) of ground clearance.
The rear-wheel drive CX-T also gains a recalibrated BMW X-Drive differential. This offers a choice of ‘Road’, ‘All-Terrain’ and ‘All-Terrain – Extreme’ settings to suit various conditions.
Adequate protection is crucial when travelling across rough terrain. Accordingly, the CX-T is fitted with underbody guards and a tubular ‘exoskeleton’ structure. As well as being useful in the event of a roll-over, the latter provides a means of attaching accessories and other items. A unique composite hardtop is part of the specification, too.
To satisfy the need to carry plenty of gear, the rear bodywork has been significantly altered. Instead of the usual panels, there’s a large equipment rack that accommodates a couple of spare wheels, a Zarges aluminium toolbox, two Rotopax 11-litre containers and a pair of waterproof Pelican luggage cases.
Morgan intends to make just eight examples of the Plus Four CX-T. Prices start at £170,000 (plus local taxes).
