According to MG, the Marvel R Electric is a new brand flagship that boasts a premium interior and a generous level of standard equipment. However, this rebadged version of the Roewe Marvel R isn’t being built in right-hand drive form yet, so its European launch doesn’t include markets such as the UK and Ireland.

Chinese manufacturer MG will soon find out if there’s much demand in the UK for an electric C-segment estate. The just-unveiled MG5 EV isn’t really an MG, though. It’s actually a rebadged version of the Roewe Ei5, a model that’s based on a modified General Motors platform.

Over the last fifteen years, MG has experienced a series of events that few people would have predicted. When MG Rover collapsed in 2005, most of the company’s assets – including the MG brand – were bought by Nanjing Automobile. Shortly afterwards, in 2007, Nanjing Automobile got absorbed into SAIC Motor (another state-owned Chinese manufacturer).
