BMW enters another market with the G 310 R

BMW wants to sell 200,000 motorcycles per annum by 2020. Helping to achieve such an ambitious target will be models such as the new G 310 R, which the firm describes as a “premium offering” for the sub-500 cc segments in Europe, Asia and South America.

Indian manufacturer TVS has unveiled its new Phoenix 125. Described by the firm as being a ‘premium executive deluxe’ motorcycle, the target market is those riders who want to upgrade from their regular commuter bikes. Indeed, it comes as standard with several features that usually would only be found on larger capacity machines. These include a digital fuel gauge, hazard lights, a low battery reminder, a digital speedometer and a service reminder function. Alloy wheels, a front disc brake and adjustable suspension also form part of the specification. Powering the Phoenix 125 is a new electric-start, air-cooled EcoThrust engine that produces 10.5 bhp (7.8 kW / 10.6 PS). Connected to a four-speed gearbox, TVS reckons that it should give best-in-class highway fuel economy of 189.2 mpg (1.5 l/100km / 67.0 km/l). The price of the latest TVS is Rs. 53,000 (ex-showroom in Delhi), and buyers will have a choice of Alaskan Green, Oxford Grey, Belgian Black Red, Moroccan Red or Helsi...

2012 TVS Apache RTR

Indian motorcycle firm TVS might not be particularly well known outside of its home market, but during the year to March 2012 it sold over two million machines. To help maintain that kind of popularity, the company has just announced a series of updates to its Apache RTR series. The changes mainly focus on the looks of the bikes , and include redesigned tank side panels, a more aggressively styled belly pan, LED running lights and refreshed instruments that get blue backlighting. Lead-in model for 2012 is the Apache RTR 160, which features a 14 bhp (11 kW / 15 PS) engine and is capable of 73 mph (118 km/h). Available in green, grey, red or yellow dual-tone colour schemes, it is priced at Rs. 67,505 (ex-showroom in Delhi), which is around £790 / €970 at current exchange rates. For those wanting a little extra power, the Apache RTR 180 can reach 77 mph (124 km/h) thanks to its 16 bhp (12 kW / 17 PS) engine.
