Top 10: UK car sales 2021 - winners and losers
New car registrations in the UK totalled 1,647,181 units during 2021. That figure represented a disappointingly small rise of 1.0% versus the previous year, but some manufactures did manage to significantly outperform the industry average.
During their first full year of trading, Cupra and Polestar posted the largest percentage increases. However, in terms of volume, Hyundai, Kia and MG achieved the greatest growth.
At the other end of the scale, ongoing supply issues undoubtedly caused some of the worst decreases. However, for Mitsubishi, a withdrawal from Europe was responsible for its permanent slump. Ford meanwhile recorded the biggest absolute drop in registrations, which consequently reduced the company’s market share to 7.1%.
