Ford reveals the final 2022 GT Heritage Edition

Ford was determined to win the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. To help achieve that aim, Holman and Moody – well-known at the time as a NASCAR entrant – was tasked with improving the 7.0-litre GT40 Mark II ahead of the June event.

Six such cars prepared by Holman and Moody appeared on the starting grid. Half of them were actually run in the race by Shelby American, including the victorious #2 driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, and the runner-up #1 of Ken Miles and Denny Hulme.

In fact, the strategy proved to be a complete success, because the final podium position was taken by the Holman and Moody team’s #5 which had Ronnie Bucknum and Dick Hutcherson behind the wheel. This third-place GT40 Mark II is the inspiration for Ford’s last 2022 GT Heritage Edition.

Accordingly, the GT Holman Moody Heritage Edition has a gold and red colour scheme that evokes the original 1966 livery. Several carbon fibre components – among them the front splitter, 20” wheels, side sills and rear diffuser – retain an unpainted finish, though.

Inside, black Alcantara fabric covers the door pillars, headliner and carbon fibre seats. A subtle gold shade is used on the paddle shifters, dashboard inlays and stitching to provide some contrast.
