Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA 45 AMG

Despite the first part of its name, it would be a huge shock if the Concept GLA 45 AMG didn’t enter production virtually unchanged.

Unveiled by Mercedes-Benz at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, AMG’s take on the GLA compact SUV features red brake calipers, a large roof-mounted wing, a rear diffuser, modified side sills and a redesigned front bumper that incorporates a ‘twin-blade’ grille, splitter and enlarged air intakes.

Completing the visual transformation are a set of elegant 21”, matt black, cross-spoke, forged alloy wheels and some less tasteful grey and red foil-wrap body graphics.

Under the bonnet lies the same 2.0 litre turbocharged engine that already powers the A 45 AMG hatchback. With its 355 bhp (265 kW / 360 PS) and 450 Nm (332 lb/ft) of peak torque directed to all four wheels via a seven-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission, the GLA 45 AMG’s predicted 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time is less than five seconds.

Expect an announcement about the showroom version sometime soon.
