A 45 AMG vs. its rivals

Mercedes-Benz has announced that the UK price tag for its new A 45 AMG is £37,845.

But with a five-door hatchback body, all-wheel drive and a turbocharged 2.0 litre engine, direct competitors for the A 45 AMG are scarce. Conceptually, the closest match would probably have been the Subaru WRX STI, had that model not recently disappeared from the UK.

So that leaves the BMW M 135i and Audi S3 Sportback as potential rivals, even though both are notably cheaper than the Mercedes, neither can quite match its performance and one is rear-wheel drive:
