UK prices for the 2020 Škoda CitigoE iV

Whereas Seat is keeping things simple by offering just one version of its Mii Electric, Škoda has decided that the mechanically-identical CitigoE iV needs a choice of two trim grades.

The entry-level SE costs £20,455 (£16,955 after applying the government’s £3,500 Plug-in Car Grant). That’s a significant amount to pay for a city car which doesn’t have much standard equipment. Indeed, climate control, remote central locking and a DAB radio are the meagre highlights.

A mediocre pure-electric powertrain merely adds to the impression of poor value for money. Sure, an 81 bhp (61 kW / 82 PS) motor delivers perfectly adequate performance, as evidenced by the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 12.5 seconds and an 81 mph (130 km/h) top speed.

However, the under-floor 36.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides a disappointing WLTP range of between 140 and 170 miles (225 and 274 kilometres). Recharging to 80% capacity takes an inordinate 12 hours 43 minutes using a regular domestic supply, or 4 hours 15 minutes via a special 7.2 kW AC wall box.

Upgrading to the SE L variant does partly address some of those issues. As well as 16” alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and heated front seats, this model’s better specification includes CCS rapid-charging compatibility. Consequently, battery replenishment from empty to 80% can be achieved in an hour when connected to a public 40 kW DC facility.

Unfortunately, the SE L also has a much higher £22,815 starting price (£19,315 net of the PICG). That’s £15 more than a Seat Mii Electric.

Škoda dealers will begin accepting CitigoE iV orders on the 10th of December. Deliveries are then due to commence early next year.
