Practicality should be a key selling point, as this C-segment estate is able to carry five people plus 596 litres of luggage. Alternatively, folding down the rear seats increases cargo capacity to 1,232 litres (according to the VDA measurement method).

Numerous driver aids will be fitted, too. Among them are dynamic cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, road sign recognition, automatic emergency braking and a semi-autonomous parking function.

Every Swace is going to feature Toyota’s familiar ‘self-charging’ (non-plug-in) hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 1.8 litre petrol engine, an electric motor, a continuously-variable automatic transmission and a small 3.6 kWh battery.

There’s a choice of Normal, Eco or Sport modes, and the Swace can even be used as a pure-electric vehicle for very short distances. WLTP fuel economy remains unknown, but CO2 emissions vary between 99 and 115 g/km.

According to Suzuki, deliveries are due to begin this winter. Prices have yet to be announced.
