Five liveries for the McLaren Senna GTR LM

Back in June, McLaren launched the 720S Le Mans, a limited edition created to commemorate the marque’s victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans a quarter of a century before. Now those celebrations continue with the track-only Senna GTR LM.

Just five examples have been produced by McLaren Special Operations, and all are already allocated to customers. Each of them wears a unique hand-painted livery inspired by the five McLaren F1 GTR entrants that finished the 1995 race.

The upgrades aren’t just cosmetic, though. Modifications to the twin-turbocharged 4.0 litre V8 engine have resulted in an output increase from 814 bhp (606 kW / 825 PS) to 833 bhp (621 kW / 845 PS), for instance, while changes to the torque curve benefit performance at lower revs.

Furthermore, every Senna GTR LM is fitted with five-spoke OZ Racing wheels, a twin-exit exhaust, a bespoke steering wheel, six-point harnesses and titanium nitride pedals. A dedication plaque showing the chassis numbers of both the Senna GTR LM and its corresponding F1 GTR emphasises the historical connection.

The five cars are:

Senna GTR LM 825/1

Yannick Dalmas, Masanori Sekiya and JJ Lehto were victorious at Le Mans in 1995, driving their #59 Ueno Clinic F1 GTR which had the chassis number F1/01R.

Senna GTR LM 825/6

Third place overall went to the yellow and green #51 Harrods F1 GTR (F1/06R). An all-British squad consisting of Andy Wallace, Derek Bell and Justin Bell shared seat time in this McLaren.

The #24 Gulf F1 GTR (F1/02R) of Mark Blundell, Ray Bellm and Maurizio Sandro Sala secured fourth spot.

Senna GTR LM 825/7

Giroix Racing Team ran the predominantly blue #50 Jacadi F1 GTR (F1/07R). Fabien Giroix, Jean-Denis Délétraz and Olivier Grouillard ended up in fifth position.

Senna GTR LM 825/5

A trio of Frenchmen – Jean-Luc Maury-Laribière, Marc Sourd and Hervé Poulain – drove the #42 César F1 GTR (F1/05R) of Société BBA Compétition to thirteenth. In 1995, sculptor César Baldaccini was commissioned to turn F1/05R into an ‘art car’ for Le Mans. The complex design applied to 825/5 represents a modern reinterpretation of his work.

Following its Concept C maxi scooter that was unveiled at last year’s Milan bike show, BMW has now revealed the E-Scooter concept. And, as the ‘E’ in the title suggests, it’s electrically-powered. With any electric vehicle, a critical question is going to be how far it can travel between recharges. For the E-Scooter, BMW is aiming for a range of at least 60 miles (100 km) thanks to a high capacity battery. Recharge time from a fully discharged state will be about three hours. By comparison, existing electric scooters such as the Econogo Yogo can travel a maximum of 44 miles (70 km), although bikes with larger battery packs will manage more. The Brammo Enertia Plus motorcycle, for example, has a range of 80 miles (128 km). Alfa MiTo TwinAir arrives

The Alfa Romeo MiTo supermini is now available with the innovative two-cylinder TwinAir petrol engine. Although its capacity is only 875 cc, a turbocharger and the MultiAir electro-hydraulic valve control system mean it produces a respectable 83 bhp (62 kW / 85 PS) and 145 Nm (103 lb/ft) of torque. Performance might not be scintillating - the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes 12.5 seconds and maximum speed is 108 mph (173 km/h) - but the TwinAir’s trump card is efficiency. Carbon dioxide emissions are only 98 g/km, a level that brings numerous benefits for UK drivers including zero road tax, a full discount on the London Congestion Charge and qualification for the lowest company car benefit-in-kind rate. Fuel economy is also decent and, according to the official figures, a TwinAir-powered MiTo will manage 67.3 mpg (4.2 l/100km) on the combined cycle. 2011 BTCC entries

2011 will see the biggest grid ever for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship since it switched to a two-litre formula. Despite the presence of only two full factory teams - Silverline Chevrolet and Honda Racing Team - ten manufacturers will be represented this season, including newcomers Audi, Proton and Toyota. The boosted entry list is mainly down to the introduction of the Next Generation Touring Car technical regulations, which have been brought in to slash car development and running costs. Most of those savings will be achieved through the use of standardised parts including brakes, suspension and gearboxes. Using durable two-litre turbocharged engines in the NGTCs should help make the BTCC more affordable, too.
