Kia creates the Sportage JBL Black Edition
Launching a Black Edition is boringly unoriginal, but that’s exactly what too many manufacturers do when they need to sell some more cars. How hard would trying a different tactic be?
Anyway, the latest Black Edition comes from Kia. The Sportage JBL Black Edition – which can be ordered now – is based on the existing ‘3’ trim grade.
Phantom Black metallic paintwork is complemented by body-coloured door handles and black 17” alloy wheels. In addition, a gloss black finish has been applied to the front grille, headlight surrounds, skid plates, roof rails and the tailgate’s ‘Sportage’ lettering.
As the ‘JBL’ part of its name suggests, a JBL audio system with an external amplifier and eight speakers (including a subwoofer and a front centre speaker) is fitted as standard. Customers also get a JBL Flip 5 portable Bluetooth speaker if they sign up for a MyKia account.
Completing the upgrades versus a regular ‘3’ model are a 360° Around View Monitor and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist.
The engine line-up comprises a 1.6 litre T-GDi petrol and a 1.6 litre CRDi Smartstream mild-hybrid diesel. Producing 174 bhp (130 kW / 176 PS) and 134 bhp (100 kW / 136 PS) respectively, both options are combinable with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
