2020 Volkswagen T-Roc Black Edition unveiled

Volkswagen has once again created a Black Edition to help shift a few more units. This time, the T-Roc crossover is the subject model.

Being based on the existing SE trim grade, the standard equipment list already includes climate control, automatic lights and wipers, front and rear parking sensors, power-folding door mirrors, adaptive cruise control and the Composition Media infotainment system (which is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay).

In addition, the Black Edition gains LED headlights, rear privacy glass, special decals and an upgrade from 17” to 18” ‘Arlo Black’ alloy wheels.

As befits its name, the front grille, roof rails, side window surrounds, door mirror caps, side skirts and exhaust pipes have all received a black finish. However, a selection of ten colours means that black paintwork isn’t mandatory.

Inside, the theme continues with a black roof lining and Piano Black inserts on the dashboard and centre console. A three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, white ambient lighting and LED reading lights complete the enhanced specification.

While the Black Edition is available only with front-wheel drive, customers can choose from the usual range of petrol and diesel engines. The two most powerful options can be mated to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission instead of a six-speed manual gearbox.

Compared to their respective SE counterparts, prices for the new T-Roc variants are between £400 and £750 higher:
  • Black Edition 1.0 TSI 115 PS Petrol Manual – £23,750
  • Black Edition 1.5 TSI Evo 150 PS Petrol Manual – £25,525
  • Black Edition 1.5 TSI Evo 150 PS Petrol DSG – £27,350
  • Black Edition 1.6 TDI SCR 115 PS Diesel Manual – £26,385
  • Black Edition 2.0 TDI 150 PS Diesel Manual – £28,190
  • Black Edition 2.0 TDI 150 PS Diesel DSG – £30,020
