Hybrid power for Ford’s S-Max and Galaxy
Ford has introduced a non-plug-in hybrid powertrain for its 2021 S-Max and Galaxy seven-seat MPVs.
The front-wheel drive set-up comprises a 2.5 litre four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, a liquid-cooled 1.1 kWh 60-cell lithium-ion battery, an electric motor and a continuously-variable automatic transmission. A regenerative braking system is also fitted, to help with recharging.
Peak output and torque are rated at 190 PS (187 bhp / 140 kW) and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) respectively. Consequently, the S-Max Hybrid can accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 9.8 seconds, while the Galaxy Hybrid completes the same sprint in 10.0 seconds. Top speed for both is 115 mph (185 km/h).
In terms of efficiency, the S-Max Hybrid achieves 43.5 - 44.1 mpg (6.5 - 6.4 l/100km) on the WLTP combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 148 - 147 g/km. For the Galaxy Hybrid, the equivalent figures are 43.5 mpg (6.5 l/100km) and 148 g/km.
In the UK, on-the-road prices start from:
