BMW’s new R 18 B and R 18 Transcontinental
BMW Motorrad has added two more models to its ‘Big Boxer’ line-up. The new R 18 B bagger and R 18 Transcontinental tourer both feature an enlarged front mudguard, a handlebar-mounted fairing, a 24-litre (5.3-gallon) fuel tank, and body-coloured panniers.
They also come with four round analogue instruments, a 10.25” TFT colour display and a Marshall audio system. Automatic Stability Control and Dynamic Cruise Control are standard, plus there’s a choice of ‘Rock’, ‘Roll’ or ‘Rain’ riding modes.
Specific equipment for the R 18 Transcontinental includes a higher windscreen, extra wind deflectors, engine guards, running boards, a plusher saddle (with heating) and a top case.
As has become customary, First Edition variants are going to be offered for a limited period after launch. These are recognisable by their black paintwork, white double pinstripes, chrome trim and exclusive seat stitching.
The R 18 B and R 18 Transcontinental are powered by the now-familiar 1,802 cc, two-cylinder boxer engine. Output is unchanged, so 91 PS (90 bhp / 67 kW) plus up to 158 Nm (116 lb-ft) of torque are sent to the rear wheel via a shaft drive.
In the UK, on-the-road prices start at:
