2012 Euro COTY candidates
The candidate list for the 2012 European Car of the Year award has been published.
Thirty-five models are included, with eligibility being determined by two factors. Firstly, the vehicle must be available now (or by year end) in at least five European countries; secondly, each must have the expectation of achieving at least 5,000 annual sales.
A first round of jury voting will reduce the original list down to seven nominees, and the result of this is due to be announced on 9 January 2012.
An overall winner will then be revealed on 5 March 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show, following a second ballot.
The 2011 European Car of the Year was the Nissan Leaf, with the runners-up slots being taken by the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Vauxhall / Opel Meriva.
