Hyundai reveals all-new Eon

Hyundai has launched the Eon, a brand new small car built specifically for the Indian market.

Based on a bespoke platform, and intended to compete against rivals such as the Chevrolet Spark and Maruti Suzuki Alto-K10, the Eon is another example of Hyundai’s latest ‘fluidic design’ styling theme. Its looks are characterised by a fairly low roof, prominent wheel arches and a belt line that sweeps up dramatically towards the rear of the car. The result is certainly distinctive, if not especially pretty.

Interior space and quality were also both priorities for the Eon and it boasts an overall width of 1,550 mm (5’1”), a wheelbase of 2,380 mm (7’9”) and boot space of 215 litres - all of which are best-in-class. The overall length of the Eon is 3,495 mm (11’5”), while ground clearance is 170 mm (6”).

There’s only one engine available: a three-cylinder, single overhead camshaft 0.8 litre petrol unit that produces 55 bhp (41 kW / 56 PS) and 75 Nm (55 lb/ft / 7.65 kg/m) of peak torque. Connected to a five-speed manual gearbox, the Eon achieves a class-leading average ARAI fuel economy figure of 59.6 mpg (4.7 l/100km / 21.1 km/l).

Paintwork choice comprises Pristine Blue, Dark Grey Metallic, Mushroom, Maharajah Red, Sleek Silver or Coral White. The interior is finished in two-tone brown and beige, with semi-cloth seat upholstery.
