Smart for-us pick-up

Smart has announced the for-us pick-up concept, which will debut at January’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Longer and wider than the Smart fortwo, the for-us has a 900 mm (35.4 inches) cargo area - not exactly massive, but large enough to transport a pair of Smart ebikes with their front wheels removed.

The pick-up’s drivetrain is borrowed from the fortwo electric drive, which means zero emissions and a 73 bhp (55 kW / 74 PS) motor. That’s claimed to be enough for a top speed of over 75 mph (120 km/h), but there’s no word yet on likely range or recharge times for the 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

The Alfa Romeo MiTo supermini is now available with the innovative two-cylinder TwinAir petrol engine. Although its capacity is only 875 cc, a turbocharger and the MultiAir electro-hydraulic valve control system mean it produces a respectable 83 bhp (62 kW / 85 PS) and 145 Nm (103 lb/ft) of torque. Aston Martin Vantage GTE

Aston Martin Racing has announced that it’ll be entering a V8 Vantage in the GTE Pro category of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship. Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE. Scroll down for more images and a video. Painted in Gulf blue and orange, the car’s driver line-up has been confirmed as Adrian Fernandez, Stefan Mücke and Darren Turner. The plan is to contest all eight rounds of the WEC, which commences with the 12 Hours of Sebring on the 17th of March. For the third race - June’s Le Mans 24 Hours - a second Vantage is going to be run, but its drivers have yet to be named. Chevrolet’s Captiva is set to become a truly global vehicle. The compact crossover, which is already available in more than fifty territories worldwide, will soon add the United States to its tally of markets when sales begin there towards the end of this year. To be known as the Captiva Sport in the US, Chevrolet is aiming its new addition primarily at fleet customers. Arguably it’s a direct replacement for the defunct Saturn Vue, which was itself based on the Captiva’s very close relation, the Vauxhall / Opel Antara .
