Fiat Viaggio teased

Fiat has released the first teaser shots of its new Viaggio saloon, which will be unveiled at the Auto China 2012 motor show later this month.

If it seems familiar, that’s because it’s essentially a rebadged Dodge Dart, the good-looking model that was recently launched in North America and is itself based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

Production of the Viaggio is scheduled to begin this July at a new facility established by the GAC-Fiat joint venture in Hunan province, China. The first Chinese market sales are then set to follow during the third quarter of 2012.

Few specification details have been revealed, although Fiat has confirmed that power is going to come from the 1.4 litre T-Jet turbo petrol engine producing either 118 bhp (88 kW / 120 PS) or 147 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS). Buyers will get to choose from a five-speed manual gearbox or Fiat’s Dual Dry Clutch Transmission.

It isn’t known at the moment whether the Viaggio will make it to Europe, but rumours have suggested that it could be imported here as a replacement for the aging Bravo hatchback.
