Top 10: Car sales Q1 2012

UK car sales in the first quarter of 2012 rose by just under one percent to 563,556, according to figures published by the SMMT.

The increase was unexpected and resulted from a strong March, which itself was boosted by the private sales segment. However, the SMMT still believes that the remainder of 2012 will be about market stability, rather than growth.

Unsurprisingly, the Ford Fiesta continued to be the UK’s best selling car, notching up 33,390 sales. A new addition to the top ten league table was the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which took the final spot by achieving 9,485 registrations - only 463 less than its BMW 3 Series rival.
